What Is L-Arginine?

L-Arginine is one of the 20 most common amino acids.  Arginine has received much attention recently because of its potential heart, artery and blood vessel benefits.  Most commonly, L-arginine is used to make nitric oxide, a compound in the body that relaxes  the blood vessels.  This, in turn, reduces blood vessel stiffness, increase blood flow and improves blood vessel function.

L-arginine is not just a supplement. It is abundant in many types of foods.  Arginine rich foods include red meat, fish, poultry, wheat germ, grains, nuts, seeds and dairy products.

Because of the relaxing of the blood vessels and the increase in blood flow, L-arginine has been used to treat the symptoms of Erectile Dysfunction.  Erectile Dysfunction, or ED, is when a man has trouble getting or keeping an erection.  This is usually because of a lack of blood flow to the penis.  That is why L-Arginine can be a great supplement for men with ED.

In clinical trials, arginine has been used safely with minor side effects for up to three months. Possible side effects include abdominal pain and bloatingdiarrhea, and gout. It may also cause a worsening of breathing in people with asthma.

Arginine may interact with certain medications that lower blood pressure. It may also interact with certain heart medications and drugs such as Viagra that treat erectile dysfunction.

There is not a recommended dose of L-arginine because a normal functioning body usually creates enough, but your doctor may recommend you start taking L-arginine due to heart trouble, blood vessel stiffness or ED.

Have You Heard Of Royal Jelly?

Royal JellyRoger J. Williams, Ph. D.,  renowned chemist and discoverer of Vitamin B5, noticed that female worker bees lived for only a few weeks while the Queen Bee, made up of the same genetics as the female worker bees, lived 40 times longer.  During his research he found that worker bees secreted a milky substance from their hypopharynx glands.   This milky substance was used as nutrition for the bee larva as well as the adult Queen.  After further research, Dr. Williams discovered the nutritional benefits of this milky substance we know today as Royal Jelly.

Dr Williams, along with many other researchers who followed in William’s footsteps, discovered that Royal Jelly is great for issues not only with the Queen Bee, but also with the human body.  Royal Jelly is great for the items listed below and more:

  1. High Blood Pressure
  2. Cholesterol
  3. Fatigue
  4. Immune System
  5. Preventing Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis
  6. Improves Sexual Performance
  7. Reduces Symptoms Menopause
  8. Healthy, Strong Bones
  9. And Can Also Slow The Signs Of Aging

Because of these great benefits, many vitamin and supplement companies have used Royal Jelly as a “stand alone” product and in men and women’s multi-vitamins.

As you can see, there are many benefits to using Royal Jelly, but one of the main side effects is allergies.  Some individuals may have allergic reactions, asthma, and in few cases, anaphylaxis.  The individuals who did have reactions to Royal Jelly were known to have allergic reactions to bee stings as well.  If you have been stung by a bee and did not have a reaction to the sting, chances are that you will not have reactions to Royal Jelly.  But to be sure you can have you allergies checked by your doctor.

Vaginal Dryness

Out of the top 10 things that afflict women, vaginal dryness is one of them.  Vaginal dryness is a common problem for women during perimenopausal, menopause and post menopausal.  But vaginal dryness can occur at any age.  This is know as vaginal atrophy (atrophic vaginitis).  Even emotional issues such as stress or depression can cause a decrease in vaginal lubrication.

Vaginal dryness often explains female sexual dysfunction because a lack of vaginal lubrication can make intercourse painful. Women who suffer from vaginal dryness often dread intercourse and avoid sex. It is no wonder many women suffering from vaginal dryness experience a drop in libido.

There are some “at home” remedies that may help before you seek expensive doctor visits.

  1. Keep Hydrated.  Everyone should consume at least ten 8-oz. glasses of water a day.
  2. Chemicals in your environment.   View the list of ingredients in your personal, bathing, and laundry products. Many perfumes and other chemicals commonly found in these products are irritants to the delicate mucosal tissues.
  3. Try a Personal Lubricant.  This is the quickest and most effective relief of vaginal dryness.  Most women achieve immediate relief from vaginal dryness and irritation simply by using a personal lubricant. You may want to give one a try.  Vaginal lubricant products are now available in a wide range of formulations, even worming sensations, safe for use in this sensitive area of the body.

Vaginal dryness can be a difficult fact of life, but there are many natural ways to overcome most of the main symptoms.  Give some of the tips listed above a try and see what works best for you.

Truth About Natural Breast Enhancement Creams

You have read the articles and you have seen the commercials about breast enhancement creams, but do they work?  You have heard yes and no.  So which answer is correct?

Skepticism for products like this is significant, and for a good reason.  There are a lot of poor quality, natural products out there.  Mainly because these products do not need FDA approval.  Some breast enhancement creams are not much more than cheap lotion.

Don’t get me wrong, QUALITY breast enhancement creams do work.  As a woman ages, her body gradually and naturally lowers the production of estrogens unique to breast tissue development.  Hormone imbalances actually inhibit bust development, as well as compounding problems associated with menopause.  Quality breast enhancement creams can actually put hormones back in sync and create a firmer, fuller bustline.  Don’t think that using these creams that you will have to go to Victoria’s Secret in a few days and buy bras two cup sizes bigger.  These creams are designed to “firm and enhance”.  Results will vary with each individual, but if your hormones are unbalanced, your estrogen levels are low and you would like to firm the skin on your breasts, chances are breast enhancement creams will work for you.  If you want to go two cup sizes bigger, look at getting plastic surgery.

Here is a quick checklist to make sure you are buying a quality cream:  1-  Don’t think that “you get what you pay for”.  Many companies will charge $100′s of dollars for a thirty day supply.  That doesn’t mean that their product is better than a company that only charges $20 or less for the same amount of product.  Check the ingredients.  More times than not, the ingredients in the expensive creams are the same as the ingredients in the lesser expensive creams.  2- Make sure the company has been around for a few years and is reputable. 2-   Only buy products like this from a  company that offers a Money Back Guarantee.  This shows you that the company believes in their products.

What is “All Natural”?

When you hear the words “All Natural” you think in your mind; no preservatives, no fillers, all ingredients straight from Mother Nature, but is that what companies mean when they print “All Natural” on their products?  Is there a difference between “all natural” and “organic”?  The answers to these questions might make you think twice when purchasing products the next time you are in the grocery store.

Wikipedia states that “‘Natural foods’ and ‘all natural foods’ are widely used terms in food labeling and marketing with a variety of definitions, some of which are vague. The terms are often misused on labels and in advertisements.” “Natural” is also used to contrast the product to look or feel “organic”, but organic is a legal term used for certified products only that do not have fillers, never used pesticides while growing the product, no preservatives added, etc.

Last year the FDA received two petitions requesting it to clearly define the term “Natural”, in order to avoid such problems.  Although FDA has not formally responded to the petitions, FoodNavigator-USA.com has learned that the agency will not be considering the issue in the near future because “we’re not sure how high of an issue it is for consumers”.

So if this isn’t a big deal that consumers don’t know exactly what they are putting in their bodies, should we call everything NATURAL?  The FDA doesn’t think that defining “All Natural” an “issue”, should we just start trusting marketers that put “All Natural” on their products even if not a hint of the product came from anything natural?

The best thing to do is just look for organic products.  As mentioned before, products listed as organic have to be tested and receive certification stating that they can advertise as “Organic”.  The next best thing is to learn how to read Nutritional Labels.  Lables are helpful and every product sold must provide ingredients and other information that can help you choose the best product for you.

Just be smart and do your research.  Don’t believe everything you read on the front of the packaged products.

Dr. Asks, “Do Vitamin Supplements Really Work?”

There are many varying opinions out there about vitamins and supplements and if they really work.  Some skeptics say that all vitamin supplements do is give you “expensive urine” and do nothing for you.  Others say that we do not have the nutrition in our daily diet to get all the vitamins and minerals we need.  Especially if someone is deficient in a certain area of vitamins or minerals.

Dr. Vincent Bellonzi has a great philosophy about vitamins and supplements. Take a few minutes and get the real facts from a real doctor about vitamins and supplements.

Can Multivitamins Interrupt Your Sleep?

Because of the rise of interest in multivitamins, either due to the economy causing people to turn to alternative medicine or many other factors, studies have been conducted to see how vitamins and supplements effect the human body.  In 2007 the University of Alabama’s Department of Psychology studied the effects of multivitamins on sleep.  The Department tested 772 people, ages 20-98, to analyze vitamins and sleep.  The Department concluded, “Disturbed sleep maintenance was associated with multi-/multiple vitamin use. Five equally plausible explanations were advanced to explain this association including vitamins cause poor sleep, poor sleepers seek vitamins, and unidentified factors promote both poor sleep and vitamin use.”  So not only do multivitamins effect sleep, but people who have problems with a restful night also seek out vitamins.

Does this make multivitamins damaging to sleep deprived individuals?  Not necessarily.  Let’s look at the vitamins that do effect the body’s ability to sleep and find a conclusion.

A study from the City College of New York  has shown that taking Vitamin B6 before bedtime can lead to vivid dreaming which can wake up an individual.  Vitamin B6 changes tryptophan to serotonin, a hormone which effects sleep.  Vitamins cause less of an effect on sleep if taken in the morning or during the day hours before bedtime.  This allows the body to use up and flush out any excess B vitamins.

Vitamin B12 can effect melatonin levels which promotes wakefulness.  Many energy drinks and quick energy products contain high levels of Vitamin B12 because of this effect on the body.

If you do have problems with sleep and also take multivitamins, change your daily regiment to taking the vitamins in the morning or hours before you go to bed.  This way you will still benefit from the supplements and you will sleep better.
